26 Lessons I Have Learned As I Become 26
As I turn 26 this year, I will share some of the lessons I have learned on my time on this earth.
Last year, back when I was still on Wordpress, I tried making writing a post about the 25 lessons I’ve learned as I turn 25. I never had the time to write that post and that eventually got scrapped. Fortunately, I now do have the time to write on the 26 lessons I’ve learned as I turn 26. There’s not much else I can say, really. Although I still feel like I’m still at the beginning of my life journey, I believe I have a lot of wisdom and knowledge I can share with the world. While my main job here is to curate the best content there is out there, there are a lot of lessons here are things I’ve learned personally, things where I tried something, fail and try again. But I’m getting ahead of myself here, here are all the lessons I’ve learned during my time on this earth so far:
Figure out your values and build your life towards them.
The best way to break a bad habit is to set limits around them. For example, I only drink alcohol every week.
If you’re not using your mind, someone else is using it.
Specialization is for insects. For everyone else, spread out your skillset and be a generalist.
Read at least 20 pages per day.
The only virtue you cannot fake is courage.
You are what you focus on. Whatever you pay attention to determines who you are.
Be hard on yourself, but be understanding of others.
Want to succeed in life? Learn how to fail first.
The quality of your relationships will determine the quality of your life.
Labels are like rocks: the more rocks you carry, the more they will weigh you down. Don’t let labels hinder you and don’t let them weigh you down, keep your identity small.
Before you make a decision, ask yourself “How can this fail/backfire?”
Loneliness is a tax you have to pay for a certain uniqueness of mind
If you’re going to oppose something/someone, don’t be as bad or even worse than the thing you’re opposing.
A lot of your problems in life can be solved with a good night sleep.
Those who do should talk and those who talk should do.
In order to say yes to one opportunity, you have to say no to all the others.
You need a lot less to live a happy life.
Inspiration can come from the unlikely of sources.
Habits, both good and bad, compound.
Pay close attention to how you spend your time. That will determine what kind of life you’re living.
Related to the above, set up times where you can’t be interrupted. When you’re busy with a project, you have to sep up “golden hours” where you can’t be distracted.
Save when you can, but be smart when you spend your money.
Giving away something, whether it’s old stuff, your time, or your money, can be a great source of joy.
The best ideas come from times when you have to deal with boredom.
The best relationship you can develop is with yourself. Always practice self-reflection and self-examination.
And these are all the things I have learned in my lifetime. Please subscribe to this Substack and share it with others if you found it useful. Once again, thank you for reading and, as always, stay interesting!
